FAQ
Questions & answers
Quick answers to what people ask us most. Can't find yours? Drop us a line.
Do you sell craft supplies?
No. Craft Shop Direct is a guide, not a shop. Our "Shop now" buttons take you to a retailer's website, where you can compare products and buy directly from them. Orders, delivery and returns are handled by that retailer.
Are your shop links affiliate links?
Our shop links go through a /go/ redirect and are marked as sponsored. Some may be affiliate links now or in future, which means we could earn a small commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. It doesn't affect what we write.
Why don't you show prices or star ratings?
Prices change constantly and we haven't tested every product, so we don't publish prices, ratings or reviews. Instead we explain what to look for so you can judge the options yourself.
What paper sizes do UK cardmakers use?
Mostly A-series: A4 card folds to an A5 card, and A5 folds to A6. C5 envelopes fit A5 cards and C6 envelopes fit A6 cards. See the cardmaking guide.
Why does my crochet pattern look wrong?
Check whether it uses UK or US terms. The stitch names are the same but mean different stitches: a UK double crochet is a US single crochet, for example. Our knitting & crochet guide explains more.
What is the easiest craft for a complete beginner?
It depends on your space and patience, but cardmaking, cross-stitch kits and chunky knitting are popular first crafts because they need little equipment. Our beginners' guide compares them.
Which cutting machine should I buy?
We don't recommend a particular model. Compare the cutting width, supported materials, software and any subscription costs against the projects you want to make. See cutting machines & vinyl.
Can I sell the candles and soap I make?
Yes, but in the UK soap is a cosmetic and needs a safety assessment (CPSR) and correct labelling, and candles may need CLP and fire-safety labelling. Check current official guidance first. More on our candle & soap page.
Is resin safe to use at home?
Resin can be used at home with care: wear nitrile gloves, work in a well-ventilated room, keep it away from food areas and follow the manufacturer's safety data sheet. See our resin guide.
When should I buy Christmas craft supplies?
Earlier than you think. Seasonal stock often appears in the autumn and popular items like cracker snaps can run low in December. Our seasonal crafts guide has a year planner.
Do you ship outside the UK?
We don't ship anything, as we aren't a shop. This site is written for UK crafters; delivery options depend on the retailer you choose.
